CANCELLATION of KEMPTVILLE 200 CELEBRATION

At a recent meeting of Coordinators and Directors of the Kemptville Bicentennial Society the Kemptville Bicentennial Main Event celebration was discussed.

The primary objective of the meeting was to decide if the Main Event celebration could be held in light of the ongoing COVID epidemic.  Various scenarios were discussed, taking into consideration the current Nova Scotia guidelines and restrictions on gatherings and the uncertainty of how long these or similar guidelines and restrictions will be in place.  Even though vaccines are forthcoming, it will be a long time before the previously mentioned restrictions are lifted.  It was decided that, rather than postpone the main event once again, it would be best to cancel and focus on other KBS projects.  It is regrettable that the celebration had to be cancelled but we felt we had little choice under the circumstances.

So much effort goes into preparing for an event like this and the amount of preparation needed would be magnified as long as the coronavirus is around.  Even if we completed the required preparations the risk remains of a forced shutdown or reduced attendance at the last minute due to a COVID flare-up.

This is not the end of the KBS!  There is much work to be completed to cancel the Main Event preparations made so far and there are ongoing projects that have to be attended to.  The Directors will be meeting in the next few weeks to sort the way ahead.

I do want to take this opportunity to thank the KBS members and volunteers who have worked so hard to plan and fundraise for the Main Event and to thank members of the community for their support, without which we could not even think of holding a large community event.  Thank you for your support over the past two years and we look forward to putting our efforts into other KBS projects!
